This International Women’s Day 2020 campaign theme is drawn from a notion of “I am Generation Equality: Realizing Women’s Rights”.
Realising women’s rights… ???
The reason why International women’s day is celebrated is to encourage full gender equity and equal rights for all, which is still, a big concern in a lot of places globally. India too has so much discrimination against women. The fear of gender based violence, women’s need for safety and comfort, lack of belongingness, lack of access to proper sanitation, inability of ‘neutral’ architectural practises – especially in non-metro cities… the list can go on and on. It can be safely assumed that almost every woman that you meet handles a great number of varied responsibilities and carries them out with a lot of expertise. When women are given the task of creating design strategies, what happens?
