Welspun India, India’s largest home textiles exporter, is introducing ‘Welspun Quik Dry’ at the ongoing Kumbh Mela. “jaldi sukhe jaldi sukhaye” will be the tag line of the product meaning the towel will dry the user and itself fast.
Welspun will deploy around 10,000 towels at the world’s largest human congregation and reach out to at least 3,000 people on a daily basis. Through this exercise, the company plans to reach out five lakh customers for its activities and engagements. Welspun brand displays will be put outside every changing rooms and police booths and also it will put up its stalls at various places in the Mela. This time, Kumbh Mela is expected to see nearly 70 million devotees and visitors.
Welspun exports towels, bedsheets, bathrobes and rugs to 50 countries from its production bases in Gujarat. In Gujarat the company has its manufacturinf facilities in Vapi and Anjar. In recent years, the company like other home textile exporting companies has started looking at domestic market to grow its revenue. At present, domestic sales accounts for just 5% of its total revenue which it wants to raise to 20% in next five years.
Indian towels market is estimated to be of the size of Rs 3,200 crore and is dominated by the unorganised sector. However, introduction of GST is expected to give level playing field for the players in the organised sector in the long run.
