Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan is the talk in the country and Government is investing heavily in it. With Current scenario of the waste and landfill sites, three times more Garbage is expected to be generated by 2030 as per the survey. So, it’s really important to have a systematic approach towards the cleaning of these wastes. The Government is not only of cleaning this waste from the road sides but this Abhiyaan has lots of benefits attached with the cleaning and processing of these wastes. These wastes are processed to make Compost and generate energy like electricity and gases (like bio gas and methane). The Landfill sites which not only pollute the air with lots of diseases spread, but also the toxic chemicals formed at these dumping grounds also harm he underground water and pollute the drinking water. In this the landfill sites are decomposed for the hygiene of the society in all way.
Municipal Corporations give this job of Collection, Transport (C&T) Waste and Processing of the Garbage to the Private Companies. Though spending lakhs of crores in the system, still there’s huge gap in ensuring the cleanliness and managing Solid Waste is a big headache for the Municipal Authorities.
With Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan in the limelight, Online monitoring of Solid Waste from bin to bin has become a necessity, which can help the Municipals to actually track the realtime status of the cleanliness and this calls for a robust IoT Solutions.
The first step starts with the collection of GIS data (Geographical Information System) for all the Zones and Wards of the city. This also involves the designing designated routes to be followed by all the garbage vehicles, which is mapped and marked. Then with the help of the technologies such as GPS (Global Positioning System) & RFID (Radio-frequency Identification Devices) and various others like:
- GPS Devices
- RFID Readers & Tags
- Bin Level Sensors
- Weight Load Sensors
- Mobiles Apps
With the help of GPS & RFID Devices installed in these vehicles and dustbins, the RealTime monitoring of the Garbage vehicle is tracked and Realtime Bin Cleaning Status is tracked; helping the Municipals and the Pvt Companies know which bin at which location at what time is cleaned. Installation of the Bin Level Sensors enables them to plan the route to those dustbins and areas for quicker and better system and weight load sensors help them know the tons of garbage collected from each ward, zone area of the city.
The CCTV Devices are installed at all the Transfer Stations (Dalhau’s) to check the realtime cleaning status and level at those areas. And a Robust Mobile Application is given to all the drivers and supervisors involved in the C&T Process which helps them click the geo-tagged photos of transfer stations and areas before and after cleaning which is then rechecked by the Supervisors.
With this now, it’s easy to locate the garbage vehicles and ensure they are following the daily cleaning roster and collecting garbage from each garbage bins as per the schedule. It helps sanitary inspectors to keep a record of the cleaning staff and private contractors while calculating their hours of work, when they are performing their duties. The Citizen Mobile Apps is also provided which enables the citizens to click & share the geo-tagged pictures of on its app that eventually keeps them connected to the process and helps in managing the Complaint Management System.
With the help of this online monitoring solutions provided to the Municipal Corporations the deviations are easily detected and it helps the realtime tracking and monitoring of the entire process from door to door collection of garbage, each bin level tracking, picking the waste to transfer stations and processing centres; it helps us a step closer towards realizing the objectives of ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan,’ the most significant cleanliness campaign launched by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.
