Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?

I live in Taiwan. Taipei is located in the north of Taiwan, which encountered problems of space limitation. Therefore, as a designer, we always consider how a space is able to integrate with functional design and combine with aesthetic. Another important issue is to create a good flow under the condition of limitation of space.

What is “design” for you? What made you become an artist/designer?

Design is naturally derived from the existing elements with poetic and timeless touch.

I majored in interior design, and finished my degree in Taiwan. After a few years of working experiences in interior design field, I decided to create my own studio. Herzu International Design established in 2005. And I have achieved many domestic and International Award started from 2011~2016. My father was a construction engineer. When I was a kid, he brought me to the construction site to supervise the progress of project. Therefore, the scenes of drilling, pile driving, steel structure, and how a piece of empty land became a land full of housing seems familiar in my memory. Moreover, I started to read magazines and books related to interior design. I thought my sense of design triggered from here.

A good client, a strong and understanding designer team, and good construction team makes a design successful.  Responsibilities of a designer towards society and environment : A concern to create an environmental friendly space and energy saving concept into design.

How do you think the “design field” is evolving? What is the future of design?

Design will evolve with the changing of environmental and generation. In today’s society, the topics we should focus on are global warming, shortage of resources and uneven distribution of resources in the world. As a designer, we should take action start from our design. Therefore, this will trigger my inspiration on how to design a house and space that is energy recovery, recycle and saving. In addition, we could utilize the nature conditions of the environment to reduce the use of air-conditioner. Moreover, we should avoid using toxic materials in our design. Future of design should be focused on concerning the living of human being as all of us are the precious gift from heavenly father.
