The architect and the interior decorators who gave their services to the owner of the premises and the owners of the two resto-pubs have acted unprofessionally and have not shown any diligence in construction of such dangerous unauthorised structures and the material used for the same. The report has recommended criminal proceedings against the architect apart from the owner of the premises and owners of the resto-pubs

Ajoy Mehta, the Commissioner of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, in his report has blamed the architect and interior designers of Mojo’s Bistro and 1Above resto-pubs besides their owners. The report has also recommended a departmental inquiry against 10 municipal officials, including five officials who have been suspended immediately after fire.

The report says that the architect and the interior decorators who gave their services to the owner of the premises and the owners of the two resto-pubs have acted unprofessionally and have not shown any diligence in construction of such dangerous unauthorised structures and the material used for the same. The report has recommended criminal proceedings against the architect apart from the owner of the premises and owners of the resto-pubs.

The inquiry report by commissioner has confirmed the theory that flying embers from hookah served illegally at Mojo’s Bistro was the trigger. A preliminary report by the Mumbai fire brigade had also suggested that flying embers from hookah at Mojo’s Bistro may have started the fire. Fourteen persons had died, most of them at the roof-top ‘1 Above’ pub next to Mojo’s Bistro, in the fire on December 29.

The 98-page report sought amendments to the Mumbai Municipal Corporation Act to make punishment for such lapses by restaurants or eateries more stringent.
