The Chandigarh Administration has thrown open the online building plan approval system for residential buildings. Though the system was launched on February 8 and was made available for the public on 12th, the system faced some technical glitches due to which its implementation was held back. Now the technical faults have been set right and the Administration has made system available for public.
Online building plan approval system is expected to spare city residents of the ordeal of running from pillar to post for getting their building plans approved. It also aims to expedite scrutiny by eliminating lengthy and cumbersome manual process. Further, the online system is expected to bring transparency in the system and reduce corruption. Till now, the residents had to submit their building plans along with prints of drawings, which are processed manually. Due to human intervention in the process, it earlier used to take more than 3 months to get a building plan sanctioned.
It may be recalled here that few days back the Chandigarh UT has okayed the self-certification scheme for approval of plans of commercial and industrial buildings. Though the provision of self-certification was incorporated in the new urban building bylaws notified on July 25, 2017, the Estate Office had put on hold approval of commercial building plans since then.
