Century Plyboard embarking on major expansion plan

Century Plyboard is in the midst of implementing multiple expansion projects both in South as well as North India to take advantage of burgeoning demand for the building materials. Most of these projects will materialise in next 12-18 months.

The MDF brownfield expansion project in Hoshiarpur in Punjab is currently going on with expected commissioning in the second quarter of next financial year. After completion of the project company’s capacity will increase from 600CBM/day to 1000CBM/day.

Meanwhile, the company is also setting up MDF manufacturing plant in Andhra Pradesh with a capacity of 950CBM/day. The company is spending Rs 600 crore on this project. According to the company, it has received all the necessary approvals and is hopeful of commissioning the plant by second half of FY24.

The company is also planning a greenfield laminate capacity of 4mn sheets in Andhra Pradesh. This will entail a capital expenditure of Rs 200 crore. Also, debottlenecking of operations is undergoing at facilities in Chennai and Guwahati, which will take effect in next 2-3 quarters.

Presently, company’s capacity utilisation is at the elevated level and in case of particle board it is 103%. Further, in case of MDF capacity utilisation has crossed 90%. The company decided to go for capacity utilisation in view of surging demand as indicated by high capacity utilisation.
