CM Patnaik to lay foundation for Heritage Corridor soon

CM Naveen Patnaik is expected to lay the foundation stone of the heritage corridor any day between November 21 and 24. As per rituals planned, the Ankur Ropana niti is scheduled to be conducted on November 21 to make way for a Yagnya which will be conducted in front of the Northern gate near the ‘Aishanya Kona’ of the temple. The ‘Purna Ahuti’ of the Yagnya will be done on November 24.

Meanwhile, the Puri district administration had carried out extensive eviction drive in the vicinity of the 12th-century shrine to make way for the Heritage Corridor following the Odisha Cabinet’s resolution for the construction of the showpiece developmental project.

The Jagannath Heritage Corridor project includes Shree Jagannatha Temple Administration (SJTA) building redevelopment, Srimandir reception centre, Jagannath cultural centre including Raghunandan library, integrated command and control centre, Badadanda heritage streetscape, Srimandir amenities improvement, Sri Setu, Jagannath Ballav pilgrim centre, multilevel car parking, municipal market development, Swargdwar development, Pramod Udyan, Gurukulam, Mahodadhi market, beach front development, Puri lake, Musa river revival plan, Atharnala and housing for sevayats.

It may be remembered here that recently, the National Monument Authority (NMA) had framed draft bylaws under The Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains (Amendment and Validation) Act (AMASR), 2010, for Jagannath Temple and its subsidiary shrines which was opposed by the Sri Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA). SJTA wanted NMA to consult it before coming out any guidelines as it severely affected the temple administration’s authority to carry out any development works.
