Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, has laid down ten guiding principles for making Amaravati the happiest Greenfield world-class capital city. An action plan has been finalised to incorporate these principles for the construction of the Amaravati Government Complex (AGC). The entire vision of AGC construction would be guided by a well-defined ‘sustainability vision and strategies’ which identified these 10 broad themes.
Themes that are incorporated in the guiding principles are optimum use of energy, water and land, well-being, mobility and connectivity of residents, social equity, ecological balance and feedback mechanisms. Andhra Pradesh Capital Area Development Authority (APCRDA) is also planning for special micro-management of high atmospheric temperatures using various technologies.
All buildings in Amaravati would be constructed adhering to the Green Building Concepts and all government buildings and housing would be rated either four star or five star. The upcoming green capital city would incorporate the finest and futuristic green building concepts and technologies that help in enhancing the health and well- being of the people of the state. These green buildings are expected to utilise 20% to 30 % less water and 30% to 40% less power. TERI has entered into an MoU with APCRDA for building Green Building Projects. As on date, over 76 projects of 460 million square feet are registered with the Indian Green Building Council.
