IKEA gets environmental nod for its Navi Mumbai store

IKEA, Swedish furniture giant, finally obtained environmental approval for a mega store planned in Navi Mumbai in the last week of August. IKEA had applied for permission in October-November last year. It be remembered here that in May this year IKEA had done Bhumi Puja for its proposed second store in Navi Mumbai.

It may be recalled here that IKEA had got FDI approval to set up a retail chain in 2013 and is set to open its first store in Hyderabad in early 2018. IKEA has plans to open around 25 stores in India by the end of the year 2025 with an estimated revenue of Rs 10,500 crore. The stores will be spread across the country, with cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai and Pune as the hub. Currently, IKEA is in the process of purchasing venues for their stores in Delhi.

IKEA is a multinational group, headquartered in the Netherlands, that designs and sells ready-to-assemble furniture, kitchen appliances and home accessories. It has been the world’s largest furniture retailer since at least 2008. The company is known for its modernist designs for various types of appliances and furniture, and its interior design work is often associated with an eco-friendly simplicity.
