Recently, Faculty of Technology (FT) at CEPT University and Visilean Construction Management Solutions organized a workshop on ëDigitizing the Construction Industry with Lean and BIM.í The workshop brought together four speakers from the domain of lean construction and BIM at CEPT University. These eminent speakers were: Prof. Lauri Koskela from the University of Huddersfield, Prof. Rafael Sacks from Technion University, Dr. Bhargav Dave from Visilean and Mr. Jugal Makwana from Royal Haskoning DHV.

Prof. Paresh Shah, Dean, FT, CEPT University, in his welcome speech set the context for this workshop. In his talk, Prof. Koskela discussed the philosophical and theoretical roots of lean and BIM, and stressed on the need for transformation in AEC industry towards these roots. Further, Prof. Sacks provided the insights into benefits derived from integration of lean and BIM, with an enriching information from real life case studies. Dr. Bhargav Dave provided emphasis on application of Lean and BIM in Indian construction industry and showed the potential of VisiLean for improved on site productivity. Finally, Mr. Jugal Makwana discussed case studies wherein digital technologies made a marked difference in project execution. The workshop deliberation focused on how to adopt the lean and BIM in Indian context as well as necessity of platform like this Workshop for further progress. In his concluding remarks, Dr. Ganesh Devkar, Associate Professor, FT, CEPT University, highlighted the need for building lean construction community in Gujarat and the difference it can make to large scale infrastructure developments. The workshop had participants from key stakeholders for AEC industry  Client, Contractor, Consultant and Designer.

These participants welcomed the initiative taken in direction of knowledge sharing with the organization of this workshop.
