Mangalapuram village panchayat has found a novel way to provide employment to unemployed and also help the homeless with a home. Its a case of hitting two birds with a single stone. The local village panchayat will be distributing free cement bricks to LIFE mission beneficiaries and the bricks are made by employment guarantee scheme workers. These workers have been making the bricks at the hollow bricks unit in the panchayat. Cement bricks have been distributed to 30 LIFE mission beneficiaries so far. As many as 1,400 bricks would be given for one house under the project.
The scheme was inaugurated on Tuesdayby the President of Mangalapuram Panchayath Vengode Madhu. The state government had planned to integrate the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, Kudumbashree and LIFE housing mission to gather construction materials for houses proposed under the LIFE mission.
