The Maharashtra Real Estate Regulatory Authority (MahaRERA) will map the real estate projects in Maharashtra on the Geographical Information System (GIS). MahaRERA will be adding a new feature in its website where all registered projects will be mapped onto the system which will allow prospective buyers to look at projects available in their area of interest, the details of the projects as well as social amenities in the vicinity.

RERA Act has made it mandatory for real estate developers to register with the regulatory body all new and ongoing projects.

Currently, around 15,900 projects are registered on the MahaRERA website.

The GIS helps to store project details like approvals and timelines, the platform will indicate amenities like schools, transportation facilities and hospitals among others. This will make it more seamless for homebuyers to find the right home of their choice.

It may be recalled here that recently the Karnataka Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA) had decided to employ a private agency to identify unregistered projects by using total station surveys. A total station survey is a technical process to survey a land parcel on the basis of its latitude and longitude, using advanced GIS technology. However, here the objective of RERA was to curb the practice of carrying on real estate activity without registering the project with the Authority.
