Issues relating to East Kidwai Nagar redevelopment refuse to die down and there are chances that the project may be further delayed. The East Kidwai Nagar project is being executed by the National Buildings Construction Corporation (NBCC), a Central PSU engaged in real estate development.
Recently, Delhi High Court had asked urban planners to review whether it should be scaled down due to water and parking issues. The Ministry of Urban Development has now decided to take up redevelopment project for examination.
According to a report submitted to the Delhi High Court by an IIT – Delhi Professor, the project could once completed increase traffic load causing congestion on Ring Road and Aurobindo Road. Also the report had pointed out that parking plan was based on a 2010 report without accounting for future traffic inflow.
Problem is also there on water availability. Initially, NBCC had asked for 3,700 kilo litres of water per day (KLD) from the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) – including both fresh and treated water. However, NDMC could promise only 2,400 KLD of fresh water. The court had also asked NBCC to explain how water requirements would be met. NBCC, on the other hand, had told that it would be relying on recycled water.
