Wadala, a suburb in Mumbai, close to Eastern Expressway, will be developed as a smart business district with Wi-Fi facility, parking guidance system and an advanced CCTV system network. The area, where the truck terminus is located, will be revamped and transformed into business district with a provision for residential properties. MMRDA, which is the special planning authority for the Wadala business district, will carry out development on 64 hectares of land of the total 109 hectares that it owns. It has scrapped the proposed truck terminal and instead develop it for the inter-state bus terminus.
The master plan will be put up before the state government for its approval. The urban development department will invite suggestions and objections. MMRDA expects to get approval for its plan in three months.
Wadala is an ideal location to become a business district due to its proximity to Eastern Freeway and also connectivity through Monorail, local railway system and also proposed Metro Line. Mumbai Port Trust is also carrying out a revamp of its land to convert it into a recreation and entertainment hub. However, MMRDA’s plans to build high-rises are scrapped due to height restrictions imposed by International Civil Aviation Organization.
