The Birla Institute of Technology-Patna (BIT-P) will not conduct Bachelor of Architecture (BArch) course this year too. This will be second year in succession BIT-P not conducting BArch as the premier institute of Bihar had discontinued the course last year also. The decision not to conduct BArch was taken after BIT-P failed to get the affiliation from the Council of Architecture (CoA). CoA is a body constituted by the Government of India under the provisions of the Architects Act, 1972, to regulate the education and practice of profession throughout India besides maintaining the register of architects.
The BArch course was started at BIT-P in 2012 and the first batch passed out in 2017. The affiliation of CoA expired in 2015 and emergency affiliation was given to the institute till 2016. As the institute was not able to fulfil the criteria for the recognition of the course, the CoA derecognized it in 2016.
The Patna Extension Centre of Birla Institute of Technology was established in 2006, as a result of an initiative from the Govt. of Bihar. The Patna Campus of the institute is first-of-its-kind, dedicated fully to the course of Engineering & Technology.
