Pimpri Chinchwad New Town Development Authority (PCNTDA), one of the development authorities of the Pune Metropolitan Region that is responsible for development of peri urban areas towards the north of PMR, has joined the growing number of state agencies opting for Monolithic concrete construction system for its upcoming affordable housing project in Pune. Recently, Telangana government had announced its plans to construct houses using Monolithic concrete construction technique. The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Urban Development has also suggested Monolithic Concrete Construction system using Aluminium Formwork.
PCNTDA has decided to go for Monolithic Concrete Construction system using Aluminium Formwork for its upcoming housing projects. The Authority is constructing two housing projects in Sector 12. In the first project, 1789 affordable houses for EWS and 783 LIG dwelling units will be built at an estimated cost of Rs 259 crore. In the second project 1528 affordable houses for EWS and 783 LIG dwelling units will be built at an estimated cost of Rs 236 crore. Both the project will be completed in next two years. For both these projects, PCNTDA will go for Monolithic Concrete Construction in RCC walls and slabs system using tunnel formwork.
Tunnel Form Construction Technique which produces high quality monolithic structures was invented over 50 years ago. It eliminates the use of any subsequent wet trades (Plastering etc). It is basically an operation to cast walls and slabs in one operation in a daily cycle. This technique is highly systematic, earthquake proven and provides an ideal solution to the critical problem of sound transmission. It gives a sound reduction of 50 decibels. Construction by using this technology will be much faster and a 10-floor apartment building can be built in just over a month’s time. However, specialist contractors with tunnel-form experience is high recommended in order to tailor the design to suit best construction method.
