Piyush Goyal makes on-site visit to IECC at Pragati Maidan

Minister of Commerce & Industry, Consumer Affairs & Food & Public Distribution and Textiles, Shri Piyush Goyal undertook an on-site visit to India Exhibition-cum-Convention Centre at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi to assess the progress of the project. Construction works to redevelop Pragati Maidan into a world class Integrated Exhibition-cum-Convention Centre (IECC) started in early 2018 but later on got delayed due to outbreak of Covid-19 and subsequent lockdown. The project is now aiming for 2022 completion.

“This will emerge as a landmark facility for hosting important conventions fulfilling PM Narendra Modiji’s commitment to make India a global destination for trade & commerce,” the Minister said after the visit. Work on the project is being executed by National Building Corporation Ltd (NBCC). Aedas, in a consortium with Arcop, won the international architectural design competition in 2016 to re-plan the 123.5 acres site and to design a world-class venue for the city

Rs 2,000 crore project has a unique design to integrate the convention centre with an amphitheatre. While the convention centre will have the capacity to host up to 7,000 visitors, the amphitheatre can host another 3,000. The amphitheatre will be situated below the first floor of the convention centre, which will be at an elevated level standing on columns.

Between the exhibition and convention facilities, the artistic 1km-long lobby provides a comfortable stay for visitors, various attractions, shopping and entertainment, as well as a 3,500-room hotel, office space and meeting facilities.
