A private firm in Gurugram has been asked to pay a fine of Rs 2 lakh for flouting the National Green Tribunal (NGT) rules. A RTI activist had filed a complaint on CM Window, alleging that the firm was constructing a building without covering the area with green sheet as per rules. It was also pointed out that cement and sand were kept in the open and the building material was blown into the surrounding fields and affecting the crop in case of a strong breeze.
The private firm in question was Social and Cultural Centre Pvt Ltd which owns a plot in Sector 64. The firm is constructing a school on its plot.
Upon receiving the complaint CMO had ordered the district town planner enforcement (DTPE) office to investigate into the matter. Investigation by the department found several violations of NGT norms by the firm. It was also found that there was no provision to spray water on the building material which was left uncovered and caused pollution. The labourers at the site also did not have any security equipment. Further, the locals had complained to the investigating team that the construction work was carried out through the nights, causing noise pollution and disturbing residents.
DTCP has issued a notice to the firm, seeking the fine and information on arrangements for prevention of pollution and labour protection on site within seven days.
