The Central Public Works Department (CPWD) is organizing a Business Meet with the Clients and stakeholders as part of Confidence Building Measure and to get their views about the Services provided by CPWD. It is an attempt to share and familiarize important activities and achievements of the Department. In the proposed ‘Business Meet’, CPWD intends to showcase a rejuvenated CPWD through a process of all-inclusiveness and wider consultations.
CPWD is the Principal Engineering Organization of Govt. of India that caters to infrastructure requirement of most of the Government Ministries, Departments, Public Sector Undertakings and Autonomous Bodies.
It may be recalled here that a study on the ‘Working and Reorganisation of Central Public Works Department (CPWD)’ was undertaken through Ernst & Young (EY) in 2017 with the objective of studying the working of CPWD keeping in view its mandate and functions, carrying out an analysis of the structure and organisation of CPWD, suggesting measures for enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of the organisation. The recommendations in the EY report encompassed various aspects of process improvement and organisational restructuring besides other related measures. An Implementation Committee was constituted in the Ministry to guide and monitor the implementation of various initiatives emerging out of the Report.
Under this mega restructuring exercise CPWD has been provided with digital systems to monitor projects real-time and assess performance of staff online. The move is intended to ensure transparency, accountability and work quality in the department.
Its hoped that the interaction with esteemed Clients and stakeholders during the meet would enhance the transparency and create sense of trust of the Clients in CPWD. Further, through the proposed Business Meet, CPWD is looking at an opportunity to showcase their performance and benefits of getting their works executed through CPWD. It will help CPWD in utilizing its technical work force to the optimal besides increasing the turnover.
