Indian Railways has decided to create ‘selfie points’ at various railway stations to discourage people from taking selfies on railway tracks. In recent times, several instances have been reported where some people got crushed to death while taking selfies on railway tracks. Apart from selfie points, some areas of the railway station will also be earmarked to hold business meetings. These areas will be dedicated paid area to hold business meetings of two to six persons.
Other amenities to be implemented include water ATMS in waiting halls, mobile charging points, wheel chairs and volunteers.
Initially these facilities will be provided in 70 stations and the Indian Railways has already chosen these stations. Later on, these facilities will be made available in other stations too.
Railways’ decision to provide additional facilities in railway stations follows the severe public criticism it has been receiving in recent times over the pathetic conditions of railway stations in the country. Poor public amenities, unhygienic surroundings and stinking toilets are the common scenes in most of the railway stations in the country. It may be recalled here that the Railway Minister, Piyush Goyal recently held a meeting with some leading architects and interior designers of the country to find out ways and means of improving the amenities at the railway stations in the country. Some of the leading architects had also come forward to re-design the railways stations at no-cost basis.
