Construction workers in any major metros and other cities are migrated labourers for whom accommodation is one of the biggest problems. Odisha seems to be one of the earliest states to realise this problem as it has planned to construct buildings to accommodate construction workers. The Kalinga Nagar Development Authority (KNDA) has planned to construct one rental housing complex for construction workers keeping in view the current demand. The plan has received the state government’s go ahead.
The Odisha state government has also approved an affordable housing project for economically weaker section in Kalinga Nagar of Jajpur district. The project, to be developed on 2.79 acres of land, will consist of around 480 housing units. The land for the housing project has been identified in Upargad mouza under Vyasanagar tehsil. The housing project will be developed in public private partnership (PPP) mode.
The KNDA also has prepared a comprehensive development plan (CDP) spread over an area of 458.78-sq.km covering 161 revenue villages of the district. The government has asked the KNDA to develop Kalinga Nagar industrial area with sufficient social infrastructure in collaboration with Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (IDCO).
