Vice President Venkaiah Naidu inaugurated Smart city Expo 2018 on Wednesday. JDA commissioner Vaibhav Galriya, union minister of state for housing and urban affairs Hardeep Singh Puri, governor of South Australia Hieu Van Le, urban development minister Shrichand Kriplani and several other dignitaries were present in the opening ceremony.
In his inaugural speech, the Vice President said that urban renaissance is the need of the hour which will help the country move forward economically. “Fortunately, now a new awareness has been created and the government has taken a lot of initiatives such as Smart Cities Mission (SCM), Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT), massive housing programmes, Swachh Bharat Mission and initiatives to promote public transport,” the Vice President said.
According to him, a smart city is one that is liveable and lovable — a comfortable and happy place for the citizens. Architectural planning of smart cities must have provisions for pedestrian passes, cycle tracks and more greenery, as that will enhance the health of citizens, Naidu said.
The Smart City Expo is being organized by Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) in association with Fira Barcelona International and Quantela Inc. at the Jaipur Exhibition and Convention Centre (JECC). The expo will continue till September 28.
