The 6th edition of the biennial World Cities Summit, the leading global platform to drive and connect innovators in sustainable integrated urban solutions, kicked off in Singapore on Sunday. The summit will be held together with the Singapore International Water Week and the CleanEnviro Summit Singapore at the same venue from Sunday to Thursday. The co-located events bring together over 20,000 attendees and a record number of mayors from over 100 cities around the world to drive future-forward solutions.
This year, WCS goes beyond the themes of urban governance and liveable cities, to embracing the future of cities through technology, innovation and collaboration. Themed Liveable and Sustainable Cities: Embracing the Future through Innovation and Collaboration, the Summit will address the challenges in liveable and sustainable cities, showcase integrated urban solutions and forge new partnership opportunities. The Summit will play host to prominent high-level audiences, including Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for Economic and Social Policies, Singapore, Mr Ranil Wickremesinghe, Prime Minister, Sri Lanka, Ms Kristalina Georgieva, Chief Executive Officer, The World Bank Group, and Ms Stephanie Von Friedeburg, Chief Operating Officer, International Finance Corporation.
The AP Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) will host a pitch competition on urban planning and solutions during the World Cities Summit. The authority will enter into Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with the top three firms which pitch the best innovative proposals. The pitch competition will be held by the authority in association with Enterprise Singapore, a statutory board under the Ministry of Trade and Industry of the Singapore government.
