Dr. Amit Hajela is an Architect and Urban Designer involved in professional practice and consultancy since last 27 years in the disciplines of Architecture, Interior and Urban Design having designed and executed over 150 projects besides his Academic Association and Research Contributions.
He is a Fellow of the Indian Institute of Architects(FIIA), Fellow / Founding Member of Institute of Urban Designers- India(FIUD), Member of Indian Institute of Interior Designers , Institute of Hospital Engineering, Life Member- Indian Confederation for Health care Accreditation, Expert Member on behalf of Council of Architecture and currently National Secretary-Institute of Urban Designers-India. He has won limited Architectural Design Competitions and has been a Jury Member and Professional Advisor for Student Design Competitions.
His work profile includes variety of projects with core area of work in the areas of Urban Design, Campus Design and Planning, Institutional Buildings/Housings for Higher Education Segment, Healthcare Facility Planning, Corporate Offices, Interiors, Auditoriums/AV Integration etc. He specializes in Campus Design & Planning having planned and Redeveloped campuses in Public and Private Sector with focus on Sustainable Design and Green Campuses and is an author of whitepaper on “Campus Design and Planning for Higher Education in India” submitted to MHRD-GOI.
Some of his notable works include the Comprehensive Redevelopment Plan and Buildings for the University of Allahabad, Comprehensive Master Plan, Smart Lecture Theatres and facilities for Jamia Hamdard University, Cardiac Center (CTVS and Cardiology)for KGMC, LICI-Divisional Office Complex, Allahabad, State Training Center- LIC of India,Agra, Harpal Tiwana Centre for Performing Arts, Patiala and Ishmeet Singh Music Institute, Ludhiana( Min.of Culture, Govt. Of Punjab), Auditorium for State Judicial Academy, Chandigarh and Revitalization and Streetscape Development of Ferozpur Road, Ludhiana to name a few.
Dr.Amit Hajela is also a Visiting Professor at the School of Planning and Architecture( An Institute of National Importance under the Act of Parliament- MHRD-Govt. of India), New Delhi having a Teaching Experience spanning over 25 years having contributed to the Undergraduate/ Graduate and Doctoral programs and has made significant contribution to Academics and Research besides his Professional Practice . He is currently an External Expert- Research Advisory Committee Member-Doctoral, Graduate ,Undergraduate and Faculty Development Programs for SPA’s, IITR and Other Universities in India.
He has several Publications and Presentations at National and International level to his credit having delivered several Key Note Addresses in his areas of specializations- Smart Cities –An Inclusive Dimension, Public Art –An Integral Part of Public Space Design, Design for Accidental and Emergency Services, Patient Safety- Design for Latent Conditions and Retrofitting of Hospitals to name a few . He has been a Convenor of Several International and National level Conferences, Seminars and Workshops and has also contributed a the chapter on “Architecture, Building Materials and Construction Technology (1801-1947)” in the volume “History of Technology in India”, published by the Indian National Academy of Sciences, New Delhi with Prof. V. P. Raori besides the above he has developed a “ TQM Model for Architectural Education’.
His contribution as Research Guide at Doctoral and Graduate Level include an array of subjects such as Strategic Framework for Conservation of Modern Urban Heritage of India, Indian Urban Road Environment- Public Space Design, Accessibility and Walkability, Signage Systems, Street Furniture, Street Systems/Public Services, Pedestrianization, Urban Governance in India and Efficacy of PPP Model in Urban Infrastructure Development , Smart Cities-cities for a smart future, Urban Rejuvenation-An Inclusive Approach, Transport for School Children, Total Quality in Service Sector, Global Competitiveness of Made in India Products, Design Awareness amongst Consumers,. The Studies are focused on Issues related to Design, Technology and Management.
